To provide understanding of the Chinese ancient culture and make it more accessible to the public, National Palace Museum organized “National Treasure Merchandise Design Competition” and themed as “Rediscover the beauty beyond time”. 162 pieces of cultural artifacts were selected and served as open source for the participants to search for inspiration, while their photos and introductions were uploaded onto the website database.

National Palace Museum is world-renowned for its abundant Chinese heritage. To make the public more aware of cultural and historical treasures, the design competition hopes to attract new talent to contribute to the product development inspired by the ancient artifacts.

New Taipei City is full of cultural energy in the region, from the ceramic industry of Yingge, indigo dyeing of Sanxia, glass craft of Tamsui, stone carving of Bali, to the aboriginal Atayal weaving…etc, these materials bred abundant creative energy and are endless supply of inspiration. The competition was themed as “restaurant kitchen”, encouraging participants to incorporate local elements into their works and to feature distinctive New Taipei City’s character.
